Digipak Analysis

A Digipak is a patented style of CD, DVD or BD packaging, and is a registered trademark of AGI-Shorewood, an Atlas Holdings LLC company. Digipak-style packaging is often used for CD singles or special editions of CD albums and is used as a package for DVDs and DVD sets.

A digipak not only markets an artist and their album but also increases the likeliness of consumers purchasing the product. The digipak includes the track list of the artist which is conventionally on the back of the product. The images included in the digipak such as the album cover give the consumers an understanding of the artists life and what various messages that the artist is trying to convey in terms of the music they are producing and what kind of emotions the artist wants the audience to feel in order to create an accessible connection with them.  A digipak also makes the appearance of a CD more appealing to people who are passing by, if an artist for example chose to utilize a bright colour, this could be the difference between a consumer passing by, and them stopping to purchase the product. This could potentially broaden the artists fan base and this could be a contributing factor in terms of the artists success on a global scale. A digipak also allows the artist and record label to store additional promotional materials in the sleeve such as a poster or a booklet. Digipaks and CD albums are contrasting. Digipaks consist of an added number of panels, meaning more information is available for the consumers such as images of the artist and products such as booklets containing information. A CD album is more basic, it contains the CD, an inside cover which normally contains information booklets and the front and back covers. The CD album is beneficial as it protects the CD disc more effectively, however a digipak allows a more accessible connection with the artist as they are giving an insight to their personal life with images and information in terms of the utilization of booklets. They are both produced from different materials and therefore their quality and life-span can somewhat vary. Digipaks are usually made from cardboard therefore damage is more likely to occur, but ultimately it is evident that a digipak is more likely to be contributing factor to the success of the artist by using more information included in the product.

For the artist we have chosen we will be devising a digipak, this will be a 6 part product which will consist of images that are relevant to the artist and the information that is involved with the artist.

  1. You have made a start in describing what the purpose is of a digipak, but you have failed to include any points on the digipak that you have analysis, which makes this post incomplete and therefore it needs to be completed.
